The Fives of „Puszta” Int he middle of 19th century an austrian painter named koch painted a picture with the title Hungarian Post. In this picture the postman delivers letters through the Hungarian Plain (called „Puszta”) ont he horses. Three in front, two at the back and the postman stands on these two horses at the back. In 1953 a Hungarian horseherd named Béla Lénárt realized the painter’s dream: he drove five horses at the same time. This is called the fives of „Puszta” or fives of Koch. In 1972 Gábor szegedi improved the fives into eights, then nines and finally tens of „Puszta”, widh was a world record at that time. In 1999 Viktor Buch set up a new world record with his twelves of „Puszta” ont he World Championship of Two-horse Carriages in kecskemét. In 2003 Gábor szegedi drove the fourteens of „Puszta” and horseherd from Tápiószentmárton
didi t with 16 horses. Beeing a horseherd is a tipical hungarian profession. Harness: The so-called „Patrac” which is a saddle whithout frame. It doesn’t have a bend witch should fix it under the horse’s belly. Clothing: Men’s linen culottes with wide legs, shirt with wide arms, waistcoat, long felt cloak int he summer, long fur coat int he winter. The hat is usually black with turned-up brim decorated by feather grass or crane’s feather. The colour of clothing is the characteristics of the differend regions in hungary. Blue is the colour of Hortobágy, white is usually the colour of Hungarian Great Plain. Whip: Short wooden handle and long strip of leather which is usually made, twisted or curved by the horseheld himself.
